On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, H-E-B announced the opening of a new H-E-B Pharmacy located on the first floor of the Health Transformation Building (HTB), which also houses UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. This full-service pharmacy is staffed with licensed pharmacy professionals and offers all the resources and quality service Texans have come to expect from the H-E-B brand. In addition to supporting the prescription needs of UT Health Austin patients, the pharmacy is open to the public for their pharmaceutical needs.

“We are very pleased to welcome this new H-E-B pharmacy to the Health Transformation Building,” says UT Health Austin Chief Clinical Officer Amy Young, MD. “The new H-E-B pharmacy will bring a new level of convenience to all the patients who receive their care in our facility, and it will also be a welcome addition for our local University of Texas at Austin and other employees.”

At nearly 3,000 square feet, the full-service pharmacy offers the following services:

  • Complete line of over-the-counter medications
  • Contactless prescription delivery
  • Drug disposal packets
  • Flu shots and other immunizations
  • Health screenings
  • Medical equipment, such as canes and walkers
  • Pet medications
  • Prescription pre-pay
  • Prescription ready calls or texts
  • Refill reminder calls
  • Refill Xpress
  • ScripTalk (talking labels for the visually impaired)
  • Specialty and compounded medications

In collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, the H-E-B pharmacy will also include a community-based pharmacy residency program, which provides post-graduate advanced training taught by experienced, licensed pharmacists. Since 2008, the H-E-B/University of Texas College of Pharmacy Community Pharmacy Residency Program has trained dozens of student residents in both Austin and San Antonio, carrying out their mission to sharpen proficiencies in patient care, leadership skills, and clinical knowledge to best serve the community.

“H-E-B has been an innovator in community pharmacy practice in Texas. The UT College of Pharmacy has a long history of collaboration with H-E-B, including training the next generation of pharmacists through internships, experiential rotations, and post-graduate residencies,” says the Dean of The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, Samuel M. Poloyac, PharmD, PhD. “The opening of the new pharmacy on the UT Austin campus is a wonderful opportunity to enhance our partnership. We are excited to work together on this new endeavor.”

In celebration of the location’s grand opening, H-E-B donated $5,000 in gift cards to be distributed to lower-income patients at UT Health Austin. H-E-B also made a $5,000 gift to the H-E-B Residency Program at The University of Texas at Austin. Since 1982, H-E-B has provided more than $300,000 in gifts to the UT health ecosystem, including support for the Dell Medical School as well as UT pharmacy, nursing, and social work programs.
