UT Health Austin, the clinical practice of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, is excited to announce the opening of its new on-site Ambulatory Surgery Center, which has achieved accreditation through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). UT Health Austin’s Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) gives patients (14 years and older) and their physicians a convenient and safe alternative for outpatient and selected short-stay surgical procedures. Accreditation distinguishes a surgical center from other outpatient facilities through its adherence to rigorous standards of care and safety.
“By seeking AAAHC accreditation, we, as an organization, undergo extensive self-assessment and onsite survey by AAAHC surveyors,” says J. Stuart Wolf, Jr., MD, FACS, who serves as the Medical Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center at UT Health Austin. “Ongoing compliance and continuous improvement are a part of the accreditation process, which fits well with our dedication to excellence in care delivery and providing the best possible experience for both patients and providers.”
The newly designed surgery center is fully equipped with the latest technologies, devices, and IT integration and is staffed to provide same-day surgical care services. Inside are four state-of-the-art operating suites and 13 private, 110 square foot rooms for patients to prepare for and recuperate from surgery as well as generous and well-equipped preoperative and post-anesthesia areas.
Located in downtown Austin, Texas, in the Health Transformation Building on The University of Texas at Austin campus, this surgery center is easily accessible to other hospitals and private practices in the area, including the UT Health Austin clinical practice and neighboring Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. Advanced imaging and diagnostic technologies are also available in the adjacent Health Discovery Building.
“Completing this project is an important milestone in expanding access to a variety of services for the Central Texas region,” says Jessica Hovland, DNP, RN, CPAN, NE-BC, PGMT-BC, who serves as the Administrative Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center at UT Health Austin. “We are here to support this community, and this final phase of opening for our Ambulatory Surgery Center achieves our goal of bringing an elevated level of high-quality care to Austin and surrounding areas while also providing opportunities for UT Health Austin to create further physician partnerships across the city and throughout Central Texas.”
Patients of the Ambulatory Surgery Center and their families have access to all of the resources and amenities UT Health Austin has to offer, including an integrated care model, attached garage parking, comfortable waiting areas, an on-site cafe, a full-service H-E-B pharmacy, and advanced imaging and lab testing. This surgery center also operates under the value-based mission and care experience UT Health Austin and the Dell Medical School are known to provide.
