Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Bryanna Mantilla, MD, PhD, MPH (they/them) is a clinical rheumatologist practicing in UT Health Austin’s Rheumatology Clinic and Musculoskeletal Institute. Dr. Mantilla is interested in bringing a sociological and structural critical lens to the practice of rheumatology. They hold a special interest in rheumatology ultrasound. Additionally, they serve as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Mantilla has a bachelor’s degree in Health Arts and Sciences from Goddard College and a Master’s of Public Health degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Mantilla completed the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning both an MD and a PhD in Sociology. Their dissertation research examined “undocumentedness” as a major social determinant of health. Dr. Mantilla completed an internal medicine residency at George Washington University and a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Washington.

Dr. Mantilla has conducted research on the experiences of diverse patients with axial spondyloarthropathies. Dr. Mantilla’s major research interests center around health equity, immigrant health, and disparities in rheumatologic conditions.
