Kyaw Lwin Aung, MD, PhD

Clinical Biography

Kyaw Lwin Aung, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist and a physician scientist in UT Health Austin’s Livestrong Cancer Institutes. He is also a part of UT Health Austin’s CaLM Care Team. He specializes in treating patients with gastrointestinal cancers. Additionally, Dr. Aung is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Oncology.

Dr. Aung earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine 1, Yangon in Myanmar and his doctorate from The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Lincoln County Hospital in the United Kingdom, a fellowship in medical oncology at Clatterbridge Cancer Center in Liverpool, and a second fellowship in early phase oncology drug development and gastrointestinal cancers at Princess Margaret Cancer Center/the University of Toronto in Canada.

Dr. Aung’s mission is to deliver the best possible patient-centered multidisciplinary care to patients with gastrointestinal cancers and to find new therapies for patients with pancreatic cancer. His laboratory research focuses on understanding pancreatic cancer biology to develop novel personalized treatment strategies for patients with pancreatic cancer. He has published multiple peer-reviewed research papers in the field of oncology.
