Biography and Education
Clinical Biography
Aaron Laviana, MD, MBA, is a board-certified urologist and fellowship-trained urologic oncologist in Urology, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in utilizing robotic, minimally invasive, and open techniques to treat prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, and penile cancer. Additionally, Dr. Laviana is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care and a courtesy faculty member in the Dell Medical School Department of Oncology.
Dr. Laviana earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and economics from the University of Notre Dame, his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and a master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management. He completed a residency in urologic surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles and a fellowship in urologic oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Laviana has a special interest in reducing inefficiencies and bottlenecks in medicine and surgery and better understanding the health economics of care. An author of more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and several textbook chapters, his scholarly work has previously been recognized by awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is committed to improving healthcare delivery and access through research and by educating the future generations of academic thought leaders. He currently serves as a member of the American Urological Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Urologic Oncology, Inc., and is actively involved with the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.
