About Memory Concerns

Symptoms of Memory Concerns

Symptoms associated with memory loss may include misplacing items, forgetting names of familiar people or places, difficulty navigating while driving, confusion about the date or time, or struggling with language and word finding. It is very common for people close to the individual to notice these symptoms first, whether it be family members, friends or co-workers.

Risk Factors for Memory Concerns

Memory changes may be caused by conditions such as depression, thyroid disease, vitamin deficiency, infections, side effects of medication or dementia.

Treating Memory Concerns at UT Health Austin

Depending on the suspected cause for memory problems, different treatment options will be chosen. Some forms of memory loss can be treated. It is important to seek a comprehensive evaluation if there are changes in cognition to determine the cause and learn about available treatments.

Care Team Approach

At UT Health Austin, we take a multidisciplinary approach to your care. This means you will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines caring for you in one place to avoid having to schedule multiple appointments with providers at locations all over the city. The Comprehensive Memory Center care team includes neurologists, a geriatric psychiatrist, neuropsychologists, nurses, a speech-language pathologist, social workers, and more who work together to help you get back to the things in your life that matter most to you. We also collaborate with our colleagues at the Dell Medical School and The University of Texas at Austin to connect you with the latest treatment.
