Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

M. Omar Iqbal, MD, is a pediatric neurosurgeon in UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. He specializes in pediatric neurosurgery, with a particular focus on pediatric spine conditions and epilepsy. Additionally, Dr. Iqbal is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Iqbal earned his bachelor’s degree in psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles and his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency in pediatric neurosurgery at Rutgers University, where his interest in neurosurgery led him to complete a fifth-year residency at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, England. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and a second fellowship in spine deformity at Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Dr. Iqbal’s research interests include pediatric spine development and the creation of growth-modulating technologies and approaches that enable surgeons to avoid fusion in pre-pubescent spines. He has published multiple articles and teaches residents through his faculty position at Dell Med. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
