Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Ting-Yi Chen, MD, MPH is a board-certified infectious disease specialist in UT Health Austin’s Infectious Disease Clinic. She specializes in HIV, hepatitis B and C, and general infectious disease. Additionally, Dr. Chen is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Chen earned her medical degree from National Yang-Ming University in Taipei, Taiwan and her master’s degree in public health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University and a fellowship in infectious disease at New York University.

Dr. Chen’s research focuses on HIV and hepatitis, and she has published studies on hepatitis B reactivation and the impact of HIV on liver health. She has received several awards for her clinical and academic work, including recognition by the U.S. Congress for improving the quality of life for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and the Outstanding Customer Service Award from the Central Texas VA Health Care System. She has served on the editorial board of the American Journal of Infection Control and has been a reviewer for journals such as Open Forum Infectious Diseases, the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, and the American Journal of Infection Control. She also serves on various committees, holds leadership roles in infectious diseases programs, has presented at the local and region levels, and is a member of professional societies, including the HIV Medicine Association and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
