Puja G. Patel, PhD

Clinical Biography

Puja Patel, PhD is a licensed pediatric psychologist in UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in providing cognitive behavioral therapy for youth with internalizing disorders and has expertise in coping with chronic illness, targeting pain management, and improving adherence to ongoing medical regimes. Additionally, Dr. Patel is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Patel earned her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and her doctorate in school psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. She completed an internship in pediatric and child psychology at Children’s Hospital Boston and a fellowship in pediatric and child psychology at the Texas Child Study Center.

Dr. Patel served as the Director of Psychological Services for the Children’s Blood & Cancer Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center for six years. She is actively involved with several non-for profit organizations in the Austin community and trains psychology doctoral students and interns as well as psychiatry residents and fellows. She is also the author of a chapter titled Alternative Education Settings for Chronically Ill Children.

Dr. Patel is a pediatric psychologist with UT Health Austin.
