Clinical Biography
Priya Kumar-Kaparaboyna, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist in both UT Health Austin’s Women’s Reproductive Mental Health of Texas and Women’s Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. She specializes in perinatal and reproductive psychiatry and provides psychiatric care through preconception planning, pregnancy, and the postpartum period. Additionally, Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna is an assistant professor in both the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna earned dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. She completed a residency in general psychiatry at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a fellowship in women’s mental health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Kumar-Kaparaboyna previously served as the Director of the Perinatal Mental Health Program at Oregon Health and Science University. She currently provides perinatal psychiatry consultation through Texas’ Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN), a hotline for clinician-to-clinician consultation for providers serving pregnant women and new mothers experiencing mental health distress. Her clinical expertise includes the management of pre-existing mental health conditions in the perinatal period and the evaluation and treatment of new-onset pregnancy and postpartum related psychiatric concerns. She advocates for women’s mental health and works to expand patient access to perinatal psychiatry expertise at both local and national levels.
