Clinical Biography
Paul S. Mueller, MD, MPH, FACP, is a board-certified internal medicine physician in UT Health Austin’s Primary Care Clinic. He specializes in providing primary care for adults. Additionally, Dr. Mueller is a professor and serves as the Dr. Lowell Henry Lebermann Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine for the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Mueller earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and his master’s in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed a residency in internal medicine on the Osler Medical Service at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he subsequently served as assistant chief of service.
Dr. Mueller’s research focuses on ethical dilemmas associated with life-sustaining technologies, especially implantable cardiovascular devices, the imperatives to use these technologies in clinical practice, and advance care planning. He has mentored many biomedical ethics scholars and was honored with the first endowed professorship in biomedical ethics at Mayo Clinic. He has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed publications and hundreds of book chapters, abstracts, letters, and columns. He is a member and fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, the American Osler Society, and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
