Clinical Biography

J Michele LaGrone, MD is a psychiatrist at UT Health Austin Pediatric Psychiatry at Dell Children’s. She is a native Austinite who completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and her child psychiatry training at UT Southwestern. She treats a variety of psychiatric issues in children and adolescents, including attention, behavioral, anxiety, and major depressive disorders. Dr. LaGrone finds that psychotherapy and parent training have been shown to be helpful for many psychiatric issues in children. Therefore, when appropriate she will refer a child and their family to several sessions of targeted psychotherapy or parent training before beginning a medication. She believes in a “less is more,” and tries to minimize the number of medications a child is taking to reduce the likelihood of side effects.

Additionally, Dr. LaGrone is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry in the Dell Medical School. She is also a singer, songwriter, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enthusiast.
