Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Masahiro Ono, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon in the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. Additionally, Dr. Ono is an assistant professor and serves as both the Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation and the Surgical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support for the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.

Dr. Ono earned his medical degree and doctorate from Showa University School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship and residency in general surgery and fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. He also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins and both a fellowship in cardiovascular surgery a and a fellowship in cardiothoracic transplant and mechanical circulatory support at the Texas Heart Institute.

Dr. Ono strives to provide compassionate and comprehensive care for his patients. His research interests include utilizing a multidisciplinary approach and cutting-edge techniques to help patients with complex cardiovascular diagnoses. He is a member of the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Japanese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, the Japanese Surgical Society, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
