Clinical Biography
Léorah Freeman, MD, PhD is a board-certified neurologist in the UT Health Austin Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center. She specializes in caring for patients with multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and other neuroinflammatory conditions of the central nervous system. Additionally, Dr. Freeman is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurology and a courtesy assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Diagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Freeman earned both her medical degree and doctorate from Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. She completed a residency in neurology at Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris in France and a fellowship focused on the diagnosis, management and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and other neuroimmunological disorders at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Hôpital La Pitié Salpêtrière in Paris, France. She also completed a post-doctoral research training in neuroimaging at the Brain and Spine Institute in Paris, France.
Dr. Freeman is the medical director and creator of the Moving Stronger program, a unique and innovative exercise program developed in collaboration with the YMCA and the Texas chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to improve the long-term outcomes of people living with multiple sclerosis by helping them become and stay active consistently. She also leads a research laboratory, and her current research focuses on the application of advanced imaging techniques to determine the mechanisms driving disability progression in multiple sclerosis. She is deeply committed to the development of new technology to bring state-of-the-art MRI analysis to the bedside and advance precision medicine in multiple sclerosis. Her research has been supported by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the National Institute of Health, and the French National Institute of Health.
