Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Joshua Grimm, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon and both the Director of Cardiothoracic Education and the Associate Director of Thoracic Aortic Surgery for the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in adult cardiothoracic surgery. Additionally, Dr. Grimm is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.

Dr. Grimm earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He completed a residency in general surgery and a postdoctoral research fellowship in cardiac surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also completed both a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery and a super-fellowship (additional subspecialty fellowship training) in complex aortic surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Grimm’s clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery with a dedicated focus on open and endovascular techniques to manage a myriad of aortic pathologies, including dissections and aneurysms. His research interests include outcomes-based assessments following heart surgery and translational basic science as it relates to a variety of aortic conditions. He has led and enrolled patients in several industry-driven trials involving the application of novel aortic stent grafts in acute dissections and aneurysms. He is also a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons and has presented at national and international meetings as well as authored 75+ peer-reviewed journal articles and countless other commentaries and book chapters.
