Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Joaquin Q. Camara, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon in UT Health Austin’s Spine and Nerve Center. He specializes in complex spinal surgery, robotic spine surgery, and minimally invasive techniques. Additionally, Dr. Camara is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Camara earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology from The Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery and a fellowship in minimally invasive spine surgery at Yale University and a fellowship in complex spine surgery at Brown University, where he served as Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

Dr. Camara has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, presented at national and international conferences, and contributed to book chapters on spinal surgery, complex neurosurgical procedures, and brain and vascular disorders. His clinical interests include improving outcomes for patients undergoing minimally invasive spine surgery. He is a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the New England Neurological Society.
