Clinical Biography
Jane C. Edmond, MD, is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist and pediatric neuro-ophthalmologist in UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s, a clinical partnership between Dell Children’s Medical Center and UT Health Austin. She specializes in adult and pediatric strabismus and the medical and surgical management of pediatric neuro-ophthalmic conditions. Additionally, Dr. Edmond is a professor and serves as the Chair of the Dell Medical School Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas at Austin. She also serves as the Director of the Dell Medical School’s Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute and holds the Wong Family Distinguished University Chair at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Edmond earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated summa cum laude with special honors in zoology and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society. She completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine, a residency in ophthalmology at Cullen Eye Institute/Baylor College of Medicine, a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and a second fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Edmond’s clinical and research interests include complex eye misalignment in children and adults, pediatric neuro-ophthalmology, the ophthalmic impact of craniosynostosis, and pediatric brain tumors. She has authored 39 peer-reviewed publications and 9 book chapters and has delivered 60 national lectures, 13 international lectures, and 12 keynote/visiting professor presentations. She is passionate about educating pediatric ophthalmologists on the national level as well as Dell Medical school ophthalmology residents and looks forward to shaping the next generation of physician leaders. To date, she has trained over 200 residents from the ophthalmology departments of Baylor College of Medicine, Wills Eye Hospital/Jefferson Medical College, and Scheie Eye Institute/University of Pennsylvania in addition to 49 pediatric and neuro-ophthalmology fellows. She currently serves as an adjunct professor for the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology. She has served in many leadership roles within the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS).
