Clinical Biography
Greg Fonzo, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in both UT Health Austin’s Bipolar Disorders Center and UT Health Austin’s Trauma Recovery and Research Center. He specializes in assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. Additionally, Dr. Fonzo is an assistant professor and serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy for the Dell Medical School Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Fonzo earned dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology, graduating summa cum laude, from the University of Georgia and his doctorate from the San Diego State University/University of California, San Diego Joint Doctoral Program. He completed an internship in clinical psychology at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a fellowship in clinical psychology at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and an advanced fellowship in mental illness at the Sierra-Pacific Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System.
Dr. Fonzo’s research seeks to understand neurobiological mechanisms of affective disorder psychopathology and interventions and to utilize this information to design and test novel neurocircuitry-focused treatment approaches. His research has been published in top scientific journals, including The American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry, Nature Human Behaviour, and Science Translational Medicine. His work is funded by the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health.
