Clinical Biography
Greg Fonzo, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in UT Health Austin’s Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences. He specializes in assessment and evidence-based psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders. Additionally, Dr. Fonzo is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Fonzo graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia with dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology and earned his doctorate degree from San Diego State University/University of California, San Diego Joint Doctoral Program. He completed an internship in clinical psychology at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a fellowship in clinical psychology at the Stanford University School of Medicine and the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and an advanced fellowship in mental illness at the Sierra-Pacific Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System.
Dr. Fonzo’s research seeks to understand neurobiological mechanisms of affective disorder psychopathology and interventions and to utilize this information to design and test novel neurocircuitry-focused treatment approaches. His research has been published in top scientific journals, including The American Journal of Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, and Nature Human Behaviour. His work is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
