Clinical Biography
Gene Kim, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist in UT Health Austin’s Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute. He specializes in corneal transplantation and anterior segment reconstructive surgery and has expertise in both cataract surgery and LASIK laser eye surgery. Additionally, Dr. Kim is an associate professor and serves as the Residency Program Director for the Dell Medical School Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Kim earned his bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from the University of California San Diego and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at Emory University and a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the John A. Moran Eye Center.
Dr. Kim formerly served as both the Medical Student Assistant Director and Medical Student Director as well as the Residency Program Director for the McGovern Medical School Department of Ophthalmology. His clinical interests include cornea and external disease as well as medical and surgical management. His research focuses on leveraging technology to enhance the quality and delivery of medical care.
