Biography and Education
Clinical Biography
Esther Melamed, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurologist in the UT Health Austin Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center and serves as the Research Director of UT Health Austin’s Post-COVID-19 Program. She specializes in caring for patients with multiple sclerosis, neuro-inflammatory conditions, neuromyelitis optica, and transverse myelitis. Additionally, Dr. Melamed is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical Department of Neurology.
Dr. Melamed earned both her medical degree and doctorate through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and both a residency in neurology and a fellowship in neuroimmunology at Stanford University.
Dr. Melamed is a principal investigator of a group of researchers at The University of Texas at Austin working on understanding genetic, environmental, and sex differences in multiple sclerosis and advancing patient-specific treatments for multiple sclerosis care. She founded the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Clinic at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin. She is also a recipient of several Neurology Clerkship Medical Student Teaching Awards, the University of California, Los Angeles Chancellor’s Humanitarian Award, Chancellor’s Service Award, and Women 4 Change Leadership Award.
