Clinical Biography
Eric Crowell, MD, MPH, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and the Clinical Director of UT Health Austin’s Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute. He specializes in uveitis (inflammation of the eye) and ocular immunology. Additionally, Dr. Crowell is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Crowell earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from The University of Texas at Austin, his medical degree from McGovern Medical School, and his master’s degree in management and healthcare policy from the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. He completed both an internship in internal medicine and a residency in ophthalmology at McGovern Medical School, where he served as chief resident, and a fellowship in uveitis and ocular immunology at The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Crowell is the Ascension Seton Network Ophthalmology Specialty Service Chief, acting as a liaison between the Ascension Seton hospital administration and practicing ophthalmologists. He currently serves on the Uveitis Committee for the ONE (Ophthalmic News and Education) Network, a combined effort of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and other leading ophthalmic subspecialty societies that come together to provide a global online platform designed to help clinicians keep up with current developments and maintain best practices. He also serves on the Executive Committee for the American Uveitis Society as a representative for the Young Uveitis Specialists, which he co-founded. He is active in clinical research activities regarding the treatment of ocular inflammation. Through his experiences, he has developed an interest in new applications in healthcare technology and ophthalmic research focused on pharmaceuticals and therapeutic devices. He is also passionate about creatively expanding these innovations into global health settings.
