Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Deepak Agrawal, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and the Medical Director of Digestive Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He specializes in pancreas and biliary diseases, advance endoscopy and prevention and treatment of gastroenterology cancers. Additionally, Dr. Agrawal is an associate professor and serves as the inaugural Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Agrawal earned his medical degree from Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai, India, his master’s in public health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and his bachelor’s in business administration with a focus in health care from The University of Texas at Dallas. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University, a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Brown University, and a second fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Agrawal’s clinical interests include improving health outcomes and decreasing costs of care. He has published extensively in this area and is the Co-Director of the Bridges to Better Care program, a multidisciplinary effort at the Dell Medical School that researches, promotes, and implements high-value care models of care. He is passionate about teaching, especially around practicing evidence-based medicine and being responsible stewards of healthcare resources. He serves on the review boards of several medical journals and on gastroenterology national committees. He is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology.
