Biography and Education

Clinical Biography

Cristal Brown, MD, MHS, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist in Digestive Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. She specializes in providing care for patients with chronic liver disease. Additionally, Dr. Brown is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Brown earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She earned her master’s degree in health sciences from Duke University School of Medicine, where she also completed a residency in internal medicine, a fellowship in gastroenterology, and a second fellowship in transplant hepatology.

Dr. Brown’s research interests include improving end-of-life care for patients with end-stage liver disease through the use of palliative care. She is also actively involved in identifying health disparities in vulnerable populations and expanding the concept of value-based care for patients with liver diseases.

Dr. Brown is a gastroenterologist with UT Health Austin.
