Biography and Education
Clinical Biography
Blair Walker, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist in UT Health Austin’s Adult Psychiatry Clinic. She specializes in the psychiatric care of medically ill patients and has additional expertise in substance use disorders. Additionally, Dr. Walker is an associate professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Walker earned her bachelor’s degree in Plan II Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston School of Medicine. She completed both a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in psychosomatic/consultation-liaison psychiatry at The University of Texas Southwestern.
Dr. Walker currently serves as the Service Line Lead for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Ascension Seton hospitals and as Chief of Psychiatry at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas. Her clinical interests include withdrawal syndromes and toxidromes, perinatal psychiatric care, heart and other whole organ transplant evaluation, delirium, managing agitation, and navigating systems of care including mental health courts and the carceral system in Texas. In 2018, she co-founded Texas’ first “B Team” (buprenorphine team) to reduce stigma, evaluate and treat patients with opioid use disorder, and connect them to outpatient care. She teaches medical students and residents across multiple specialties and has received numerous awards, including the Humanism in Psychiatry Award during medical school, the Van Dao Best Resident Award, and several teaching awards. She supports physicians in recovery as a member of the Travis County Medical Society Physician Health and Rehab Committee, is a champion of women in medicine through mentorship and her work with the Women in Medicine Committee, and maintains professional memberships in the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association, Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, and Travis County Society for Psychiatric Physicians.
