Biography and Education
Clinical Biography
Alyssa Aguirre, MSW, LCSW-S, is a licensed clinical social worker in UT Health Austin’s Comprehensive Memory Center within the Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences. She is also a part of the Integrated Behavioral Health care team. She specializes in counseling individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Additionally, Alyssa Aguirre is an assistant professor of practice in The University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work and serves as the Assistant Director of Dementia Care Transformation for the Dell Medical School Department of Neurology.
Alyssa Aguirre earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She also completed a fellowship in geriatrics and earned her Specialization in Aging Certificate from the University of Michigan.
Alyssa Aguirre has dedicated her career to designing new models of dementia care, advancing social and biomedical research, and providing direct patient care to patients and family caregivers. She is an advocate for early diagnosis and evidence-based program interventions in communities and hospital systems. She contributed to Dementia Friendly America, an initiative to educate healthcare systems and communities on ways to become dementia-friendly by developing training videos and provider practice tools. Alyssa was recognized by the Sojourns® Scholar Leadership Program for her work with the Caregiver Support Project. She presents at the national, state, and local levels on topics related to dementia, aging, and caregiving.
