Biography and Education
Melissa Miller, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in UT Health Austin’s Musculoskeletal Institute. She is also a part of UT Health Austin’s Integrated Behavioral Health team. She specializes in using cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain, cognitive processing therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder, solution-focused brief therapy, and crisis intervention.
Ms. Miller earned both her master’s and bachelor’s in social work as well as a Healthcare Social Work Certificate from The University of Texas at Austin. She is certified in Mental Health First Aid and the use of the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS).
Melissa Miller has over 6 years of experience working with diverse social service programs including international social work, research, homelessness, women’s health in Mexico, trauma, education, and immigration. Her clinical work focuses on adjusting to chronic health conditions, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and trauma. She volunteers with the Mental Health Professional Collaborative and the Social Work Detention Response Team through Girasol, housed in the Texas Institute for Child and Family Wellbeing at The University of Texas at Austin, where she helps immigrant children and families in Texas heal from trauma by offering support, providing education, and creating connections. She is also an affiliate of Texas 4000 for Cancer, The University of Texas at Austin Social Work Council, and Alpha Phi Omega.
