Clinical Biography

Laura Q.M.Chow, MD, FRCPC is the Director of the Thoracic, Head and Neck Cancer and Clinical Immunotherapy Programs, as well as the Associate Cancer Center Director for Clinical Research at the UT Health Austin LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes. Dr. Chow is a physician who specializes in the clinical medical oncology cancer care of adult patients diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck (including squamous cell carcinoma and rarer cancer cell types in the head and neck region, salivary gland cancers and thyroid cancers) and with thoracic lung cancers (non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, neuroendocrine cancers, mesotheliomas and thymoma/thymic carcinomas). She is passionate about finding new treatment options and clinical trials for her patients with particular interest in immunotherapy as well as targeted therapies. She attributes her excellent medical and clinical training in internal medicine and medical oncology in Canada at the University of British Columbia, University of Calgary and University of Alberta, Canada. She became licensed as a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine and in Oncology before pursuing a specialized lung cancer and new drug development, clinical trials fellowship at the University of Colorado. She has specialized expertise clinically caring for lung and head and neck cancer patients for more than 15 years. She previously practiced, developed clinical research trials and the phase I developmental therapeutics programs as well as taught medical students, residents and fellows in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington and is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. She is a prolific researcher, who has published multiple works, nationally and internationally, in the area of immunotherapy, novel treatments and clinical trials pertaining to head and neck and lung cancers. In addition, Dr. Chow serves as a Professor with Tenure and the Associate Chair of Education in the Dell Medical School Department of Oncology.
