Kelly Moyer, MS, LCGC, is a board-certified genetic counselor in UT Health Austin’s Women’s Health Institute. With more than 20 years of experience counseling and advocating for high-risk obstetric patients and their families, who are at increased risk for having a child with a genetic disorder, she focuses on increasing access to genetic screening/testing, supportive decision-making, and making complex and ever-changing genetic technologies more comprehensible for providers, patients and their families, and students. Additionally, Kelly Moyer serves as the Director of Genetic Counseling Services and Instructor for the Dell Medical School Department of Women’s Health.
Kelly Moyer earned her both her master’s in medical genetics and her bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She oversaw an Illinois Department of Health grant for prenatal genetic services and was active in the pursuit of genetic counseling licensure in Illinois, becoming one of the first genetic counselors to get an Illinois state license.
Kelly Moyer’s enjoys teaching clinicians, including genetic counseling students, medical students, and women’s health and pediatric residents and fellows. Recently, she co-created a successful genetic screening protocol for indigent preconceptional and prenatal patients seen at Community Care here in Austin, and it is her hope to continue to expand clinical genetic counseling services in Central Texas.
