Clinical Biography

Edward J. Bernacki, MD, MPH, is a board-certified occupational and preventative medicine specialist and the Executive Director of UT Health Austin’s WorkLife Occupational Health, Walk-In and Travel Clinic. With over 20 years of experience in the on-site clinic market, he has launched 40 clinics in more than 25 states, serving thousands of employees. He specializes in caring for and helping prevent work-related illnesses and injuries. Additionally, Dr. Bernacki is a professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Population Health.

Dr. Bernacki earned his medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He completed both a residency in anesthesia and a second residency in preventative medicine at Yale University.

Dr. Bernacki is a past President of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and has published numerous peer reviewed articles in the field of occupational medicine, toxicology, medical care cost containment, and worker’s compensation related issues. He has served as a Professor of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he created a network of on-site wellness clinics for multi-national employers. He also managed the John Hopkins University and Health System’s workers’ compensation insurance programs, reducing the incidence and cost of illness for the populations served. Prior to his time at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Bernacki held a variety of positions in industry, including Corporate Medical Director of United Technologies Corporation and Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environment for Tenneco, Inc.
