Clinical Biography

Amy Esqueda is a board-certified nurse practitioner and associate provider for the Women’s Health Institute at UT Health Austin. During her more than 30 year-long career, Amy has served in almost every role in health care including receptionist, unit secretary, billing administrator, scrub technician, staff nurse, charge nurse, department head, nurse practitioner and adjunct professor.

Growing up in El Paso, Amy characterizes her experience as “Deep South meets Mexico.” After graduating from high school, Amy headed to The University of Texas at El Paso where she received her BS in Nursing. After a decade working as a registered nurse in Central Texas, Amy headed to Philadelphia in pursuit of a master’s degree. ”I have always seen challenges as opportunities,” she says. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, she returned to Austin and began working as an endocrinology and women’s health nurse practitioner.

At UT Health Austin, Amy says she saw a unique opportunity. “This is a unique practice in that it inspires patients to become their own advocates and to achieve great outcomes. As a nurse practitioner, I can share knowledge and help build UT Health Austin as a place where patients know they will receive the ultimate in care.”

Outside of the clinic, Amy enjoys reading, fine arts, music, sports and spending time with her husband and three children. She is also a flautist and distance cycler.
