About This Clinical Practice

The Heartburn and Esophageal Disorders clinical practice is a subspecialized team within Digestive Health, the clinical partnership between UT Health Austin and Ascension Seton, which includes Dell Seton Medical Center, Seton Williamson Hospital, and Seton Northwest Hospital.

The Heartburn and Esophageal Disorders clinical team diagnoses, treats, and manages disorders of the foregut (specifically the esophagus and stomach), including achalasia, Barrett’s Esophagus, complex hiatal hernias, GERD, and other esophageal disorders, in adult patients (18 years and older). We want to improve your overall health and quality of life by diagnosing and treating the cause of your gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux).

Located in the clinical spaces at UT Health Austin with access to full-scale hospital resources, the Heartburn and Esophageal Disorders team has the ability to provide the most advanced treatments available for patients in Central Texas and beyond with a focus on patient-centered outcomes, cutting-edge research, and medical education.

Treatment Approach

We take a multidisciplinary approach to your care. This means you will benefit from the expertise of multiple specialists across a variety of disciplines caring for you in one place to avoid having to schedule multiple appointments with providers at locations all over the city. The Heartburn and Esophageal Disorders care team includes surgical and non-surgical heartburn and esophageal disorders specialists, gastroenterologists, registered nurses, physician assistants, dietitians, social workers, and more, who work together to help you get back to the things in your life that matter most to you.

The collaboration between UT Health Austin and Ascension Seton brings together the benefits of an academic medical practice and community clinics, including:

  • Highest quality services from expert physician specialists and subspecialists
  • Doctors well-versed in the latest treatments, technologies, and innovations who care for patients and educate doctors of the future
  • Access to the latest discoveries in medicine sooner
  • Opportunities to participate in clinical trials

This collaboration allows us to provide you with a variety of treatment options to help you meet your specific needs and goals. We don’t want you to feel limited by your current medication or treatment options, which may often treat your symptoms, but not the disease itself. In some cases, we can offer surgical treatments that may permanently relieve acid reflux. Advanced imaging and lab testing are also available on-site if needed.
